A19 Pensions Regulations - What is it?
Regulation A19 of the police pension regulations is being referred to by a number of Chief Officers. It can be used to forcibly retire officers with over 30 years service in the interests of 'force efficiency'. A number of forces have used the regulation in the past following the announcement of the government cuts to police funding.

A group of about 17 forces recently sought legal advice collectively as to any ramifications that invoking the regulation may cause because since the pension regulations came into being the law has changed around retirement ages. It would seem at this time however that A19 is still lawful, albeit the regulation has not been used as yet to be challenged in a court.
